How to use the Basic Calculator
The basic calculator handles everyday sums with memory keys and a running tape of your recent answers.
The formula
It follows the usual order of operations: brackets, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.
Worked example
12.5 × 8 = 100. If a bill is split 4 ways, 100 ÷ 4 = 25 each.
Tips for better results
- Type with your keyboard: digits, + − * /, Enter, Backspace and Escape all work.
- Use the tape to reuse earlier answers.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting 2 + 3 × 4 to equal 20; the answer is 14 because multiplication comes first.
- Forgetting to clear memory between jobs.
