How to use the Discount Calculator
The discount calculator gives the sale price after a percentage off, with an optional extra discount.
Open the Discount Calculator →
What you need to enter
- Original price ($)
- Discount (%)
- Extra off (%)
The formula
Sale price = original × (1 − discount) × (1 − extra discount). Savings = original − sale price.
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Original price ($): 80
- Discount (%): 25
- Extra off (%): 0
| Sale price | $60.00 |
| You save | $20.00 |
| Total discount | 25% |
Tips for better results
- Two successive discounts do not add up: 20% then 10% is 28%, not 30%.
- Check the final price, not just the percent.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Adding percentage discounts together.
- Forgetting tax.
