How to use the Matrix Calculator
The matrix calculator works with 2×2 matrices: add, subtract, multiply, determinant and inverse.
What you need to enter
- Operation
- A (row-wise: a b c d)
- B (row-wise: a b c d)
The formula
det = ad − bc. Inverse = (1 ÷ det) × [[d, −b], [−c, a]].
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Operation: A + B
- A (row-wise: a b c d): 1 2 3 4
- B (row-wise: a b c d): 0 1 1 0
| A + B | [ 1 3 ; 4 4 ] |
Tips for better results
- A matrix with determinant 0 has no inverse.
- Order matters in multiplication.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming A × B = B × A.
- Entering numbers in the wrong order.
