How to use the VAT Calculator
The VAT calculator adds value-added tax to a net price or removes it from a gross price.
What you need to enter
- Calculate
- Amount
- VAT rate (%)
The formula
Gross = net × (1 + VAT rate). Net = gross ÷ (1 + VAT rate). VAT = gross − net.
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Calculate: Add VAT (net → gross)
- Amount: 100
- VAT rate (%): 20
| Gross price | 120 |
| VAT | 20 |
Tips for better results
- Check the rate for your goods, since reduced rates exist.
- Keep the net and VAT amounts separate on invoices.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Taking 20% off a VAT-inclusive price instead of dividing by 1.20.
- Using the wrong rate for the product.
