How to use the Volume Calculator
The volume calculator finds the volume and surface area of a cube, box, cylinder, sphere or cone.
The formula
Cube a³. Box l × w × h. Cylinder πr²h. Sphere 4⁄3 πr³. Cone ⅓πr²h.
Worked example
A cylinder with radius 2 and height 5 has volume π × 2² × 5 = 62.83 cubic units.
Tips for better results
- Measure every side in the same unit.
- 1 cubic metre equals 1,000 litres.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Mixing centimetres and metres.
- Using diameter instead of radius.
