How to use the BMI Calculator
The BMI calculator shows your Body Mass Index, a quick screening number based on height and weight for adults.
The formula
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². In US units, BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)².
Worked example
70 kg and 175 cm: 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9, which is in the healthy range.
Tips for better results
- Healthy range for adults is 18.5–24.9.
- BMI does not separate muscle from fat, so use it with other measures.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using it for children, who need age-based charts.
- Treating BMI as a diagnosis.
