Open the Fuel Cost Calculator →
What you need to enter
- Distance (miles)
- Fuel economy (mpg)
- Fuel price ($ per gallon)
- Number of people sharing
The formula
Fuel needed = distance ÷ mpg. Cost = fuel needed × price per gallon.
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Distance (miles): 300
- Fuel economy (mpg): 28
- Fuel price ($ per gallon): 3.5
- Number of people sharing: 1
| Trip fuel cost | $37.50 |
| Fuel needed | 10.71 gallons |
| Cost per person | $37.50 |
| Cost per mile | $0.13 |
Tips for better results
- Divide by the number of people to share.
- Add tolls and parking separately.
