How to use the Gravel Calculator
The gravel calculator estimates the volume and weight of gravel for a driveway or path.
What you need to enter
- Length (ft)
- Width (ft)
- Depth (in)
- Density (tons per cu yd)
The formula
Volume = length × width × depth. Weight = cubic yards × density (about 1.4 tons).
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Length (ft): 20
- Width (ft): 10
- Depth (in): 4
- Density (tons per cu yd): 1.4
| Cubic yards | 2.47 |
| Tons | 3.46 |
| Pounds | 6,914 |
Tips for better results
- Compact layers need extra.
- Check supplier density.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Mixing units.
- Forgetting compaction.
