How to use the Mulch Calculator
The mulch calculator estimates the volume of mulch for a garden bed.
What you need to enter
- Length (ft)
- Width (ft)
- Depth (in)
The formula
Volume = length × width × depth. 27 cubic feet = 1 cubic yard.
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator:
- Length (ft): 20
- Width (ft): 8
- Depth (in): 3

Tips for better results
- Mulch 2–3 inches deep.
- Bagged mulch is usually 2 cubic feet.
