The formula
Tip = bill × tip percent. Total = bill + tip. Each person pays total ÷ number of people.
Worked example
A bill of $80 with an 18% tip: tip $14.40, total $94.40. Split 4 ways, each pays $23.60.

- Check whether service is already included.
- Round up per person if you want to leave a round amount.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Tipping on the amount after tax when local custom is pre-tax.
- Forgetting to split the tip too.
